EverFlor - Prime DT container, background removed

Measured Mix Window

Mix base and hardener at 1.76:1 by weight and the film cures by chemical reaction, not by drying. Pot life is up to 45 minutes at 20°C, so mix only what you can brush out in that window. Nothing is thinned; apply the material as supplied between 10°C and 25°C.

Sealed Absorbency Coat

Absorbent concrete draws binder out of a finish coat, leaving uneven gloss and weak adhesion. One coat at 3-4m² per kg seals that absorbency, so the EverFlor finish that follows cures with even gloss and full adhesion. Apply by medium pile roller and cut in with a brush.

Zero Loss Penetration Cure

The resin is 100% solids, so nothing flashes off as solvent and everything applied stays in and on the floor. The material soaks into open concrete and cures within the top layer, consolidating it instead of bridging over it. A 220 micron wet film stays a 220 micron dry film.

Damp Tolerant Epoxy Bond

A standard epoxy primer needs a dry slab, so residual moisture holds up the job. Prime DT is formulated for damp-prone and absorbent concrete, so priming does not have to wait for the slab to dry out completely. Remove all standing and surface water first; it is a primer, not a waterproofing product, and it does not stop active water ingress.

Performance Profile

Two-Pack Damp-Tolerant Epoxy. Prime DT is a resin and hardener system for priming damp-prone, absorbent concrete in a single coat. It cures chemically to a grey sealed film that stabilises the substrate and gives the EverFlor floor coating a consistent base. Apply it as supplied with a medium pile roller; no thinner is needed.

Essential Information

Product Details

Description

EverFlor Prime DT is a damp tolerant epoxy floor primer for concrete that carries residual moisture. Use it on damp-prone and absorbent slabs that need stabilising before a floor coating goes down. Choose it when waiting for a fully dry slab would hold up the job.

Prime DT is a two-component epoxy, supplied as Part A resin and Part B hardener. Mix the full unit and apply one coat. The primer seals the open surface of the concrete, binds loose fines and cures to a grey film. That film gives the following EverFlor floor coating a consistent, sealed base, so the coating cures evenly instead of losing resin into the slab.

Select Prime DT because of substrate moisture, not as a general upgrade. For dry, porous concrete, EverFlor Prime DP is the standard primer. For concrete previously contaminated with oil, use EverFlor Prime OT after cleaning. Where cure speed is the priority, EverFlor Prime 4H is the rapid-cure option. Choose the primer by substrate condition.

Recommended areas of use

  • Damp-prone concrete floors where residual moisture would otherwise delay coating
  • Absorbent concrete slabs that need stabilising before a floor coating
  • Commercial, industrial and garage floor coating projects
  • Interior and exterior concrete floors
  • Prepared concrete where a standard dry-substrate epoxy primer is unsuitable because of moisture

Features

  • Damp tolerant. Formulated for damp-prone concrete, so priming does not have to wait for the slab to dry out completely.
  • Two-component epoxy. Resin and hardener cure by chemical reaction, not by evaporation, so the film builds its strength in the slab conditions it is applied to.
  • 100% solids. Nothing is lost to evaporation, so the wet film and the dry film are both 220 microns. What you apply is what stays on the floor.
  • Low VOC. Content is below 30 g/l, and the primer needs no thinner. Apply it as supplied.
  • Stabilises absorbent concrete. The primer binds the surface and seals the pores, giving the floor coating an even, non-absorbent base.
  • Single coat. One coat primes correctly prepared concrete before the EverFlor coating system.
  • Interior and exterior use on concrete floors.

Good to know

  • Damp tolerant does not mean suitable for standing water. Remove all standing and surface water before you prime.
  • Prime DT is not a waterproofing product. It does not stop active water ingress, hydrostatic pressure or moisture from a missing or failed damp-proof membrane. Find and deal with the cause before coating.
  • Preparation decides adhesion. Remove laitance, curing compounds, weak coatings and contamination mechanically.
  • Moisture tolerance does not compensate for oil or chemical contamination. Use Prime OT on previously oil-contaminated floors after cleaning.
  • Dry, porous concrete with no moisture issue is better suited to Prime DP.
  • Apply between 10°C and 25°C. Drying and cure slow down at the lower end of that range and in high humidity.
  • Overcoat with a compatible EverFlor floor coating. Prime DT is a primer, not a finished floor.
Application

SURFACE PREPARATION

Prime DT tolerates damp concrete, but it does not tolerate poor preparation. The floor must be sound, clean and free from loose material, grease, oil and other contaminants.

Remove laitance, curing compounds and existing weak coatings mechanically. Grind or shot blast smooth and power-floated concrete to create a key. Vacuum all dust before priming.

MOISTURE GUIDANCE

Prime DT is formulated for damp-prone concrete that holds residual moisture. Remove all standing and surface water before application.

Do not use Prime DT to stop active water ingress, hydrostatic pressure or continuous water penetration. Where moisture comes from a missing or defective damp-proof membrane, assess and resolve the cause before coating.

MIXING AND APPLICATION

The mixing ratio is 1.76 : 1 by weight, Part A to Part B. Stir Part A, add all of Part B and mix mechanically until uniform. Do not split units.

Apply between 10°C and 25°C. Cut in with a brush, then roll one coat with a medium pile roller. Work the primer into porous areas. Coverage is 3-4m² per kg, so a 5kg unit primes roughly 15-20m² depending on the absorbency of the slab. Do not thin.

OVERCOATING

Overcoat with a compatible EverFlor floor coating after 8 hours at 20°C. Apply the coating within 48 hours at 20°C. Beyond that window, abrade the primer before coating. Lower temperatures and high humidity extend these times.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Can I apply Prime DT to wet concrete?
Prime DT is formulated for damp-prone concrete that holds residual moisture. It is not for standing water, waterlogged or saturated concrete. Remove all standing and surface water before you prime. The surface can be damp, but it must not be wet with free water, and it must still be sound, clean and mechanically prepared.
What is the difference between Prime DT and Prime DP?
Both are EverFlor epoxy floor primers for concrete. Prime DP is the standard primer for dry, porous concrete. Prime DT is the choice when the slab carries residual moisture, or when getting it fully dry would delay the project. Choose by substrate condition. On a dry slab with no moisture issue, Prime DP is the appropriate primer.
Will Prime DT stop rising damp or water coming through the floor?
No. Prime DT tolerates residual moisture in the concrete; it is not a waterproofing membrane. It does not stop active water ingress, hydrostatic pressure or moisture from a missing or failed damp-proof membrane. Where those conditions exist, assess and resolve the cause before you coat the floor.
What preparation does the floor need?
The floor must be sound, clean and free from loose material, grease, oil and contaminants. Remove laitance, curing compounds and weak coatings mechanically. Grind or shot blast smooth and power-floated concrete to give the primer a key. Moisture tolerance does not compensate for oil contamination; on previously oil-contaminated floors, clean thoroughly and use EverFlor Prime OT instead.
How long before I can walk on it or apply the floor coating?
At 20°C, Prime DT is touch dry after 6 hours and takes foot traffic after 8 hours. Apply the EverFlor floor coating from 8 hours and within 48 hours of priming. If you miss that window, abrade the primer before coating. Full cure takes 7 days. Cooler conditions, high humidity and damp substrates extend all of these times.
